1MBB stands for One Million Black Businesses. In October 2021, REACH officially partnered with Operation HOPE, a national non-profit, to expand its network and incorporate more programs. 1MBB was one of them.
This program is a 10-week entrepreneurial bootcamp for small business owners/people wanting to start their own business. The cohort met weekly to learn about different aspects of business concepts, including, but not limited to, budgeting, legal entities, business plans, and marketing. I had the honor of teaching the cohort about graphic design principles, branding, and brand guides. The students finished the course with more knowledge about running a successful business and also a strong network of other entrepreneurs they could lean on and support.
At the end of the 10 weeks, the cohort was given the opportunity to compete in a pitch competition where they presented their business idea to a panel of judges for cash prizes. The first place winner was awarded $1,500 to help support their business.
Along with a partial teaching role, I was behind all marketing content for the program. I created two major social media campaigns that got posted weekly. The first being 1MBB Cohort Spotlights where two students got featured on our social media. The second was posting brief profiles about our weekly guest speakers. I was also responsible for creating table tags for all the students to put on their desks before class, designing the weekly PowerPoint presentations, and even designing the program booklet for the pitch competition.
The use of the arrow pattern as the background of all the marketing material for this program derived from Operation HOPE's arrow logo. I wanted to subtly acknowledge that partnership in all content that promotes 1MBB, while still keeping the REACH brand attached.
